As a generalization of group homomorphisms and retracts, we first establish several fundamental properties of quasi-homomorphisms and quasi-retracts. Using the framework of quasi-retracts, we prove an analogue of the classical splitting theorem for short exact sequences of groups. If time permits, I will further discuss how this concept encodes geometric information.
